Technique is crucial. Awesome product.
The silicone is super tough and stand up to scraping (with a smooth but dull blade) when it’s time clean the dead flies, old glue and dust off. Each ball has about 1017 square inches of surface area, so one can will coat one ball each. The applicator brush is crap unless you’re coating small surfaces like cups or hats. I hung the ball from the ceiling from a guide wire to eye level, and pinched the bottom of the ball and attached a spring clamp to hold it steady while applying glue or cleaning for another coating. I used a carpenters pencil to put a few large dollops at the top and spread it downward, evenly. This method makes the application super quick and easy; ~5 minutes, with no mess or frustration. When it comes time to clean, I spray a light coating of diesel fuel all over the surface and let it sit for a minute to work through the old glue, bugs, and dust. Then I take a smooth but dull scraper and work from top down to clean the old stuff off. Once it’s all smooth again, I’ll use acetone or rubbing alcohol to clean the remaining diesel fuel off, otherwise the new glue will run and drip in the sun. Once it’s dry, reapply with new glue and you’re ready to destroy thousands more flies. Also, Olson makes a similar sticky product “Olson sticky stuff” that works just as well but costs 60% less per can.

Had high hopes
Messy and didn’t catch any horseflies. Lots of gnats and flies so not a complete waste . Works to catch but didn’t attract anything so it’s just a matter of a bugs bad luck to fly into it

Yellow flies are the worst.
Traps the yellow flies great! 2 balls for the price is a great value.

The Ball is Great, the CatchEM coating is BAD!
I've been using Bug Ball for several years now, and it works like magic when used with the right sticky coating that was Tanglefoot Tangle-Trap I got the kit with originally. It stays sticky for weeks even in 100 degrees. This CatchEM coating it so BAD, it melted down in one week in 90 degrees and the top half of ball is not sticky at all now. If you get it, make sure to get Tanglefoot Tangle-Trap as This CatchEM coating it comes with now is just beyond BAD.

Ineffective
I purchased these based on some of the reviews and other sites. They were placed at various height and locations, as recommended, but none of them were successful. They have been a waste of time, money and effort. This has been a bumper season for horse flies and deer flies, and after a month of placement they have caught a whopping 3 deer flies and 1 horse fly (along with a butterfly, a moth and numerous knats). These were placed near and around the paddocks with horses and donkeys, where the flies are prevalent, but nothing. I have killed more horse and deer flies with my hands in one day then these have caught in a month. Packaging: The balls were shipped in bags, but the cans of adhesive were not and leaked all over the inside of the boxes and the contents. Adhesive: Like other reviews, application with the little brush was futile and time consuming. Also, because it went on so thick and clumpy with the brush, a lot of it melted and dripped off in the heat. Fortunately there was still enough on the surface to catch what it could. I also utilized a can of the spray adhesive on one of the balls, which remained on the ball, but was no more effective then the can stuff. Recommendation: Personally I will not purchase these again. I will purchased other adhesive and apply it to something else as the flies did not perceive these to be animals.

Doesn’t seem to attract bugs
I didn’t have the issues some people have with the sticky stuff. I washed the ball with dish soap and spread the sticky stuff on pretty easy. What I’m annoyed with is that it caught ONE yellow fly in the time I have had it. The rest flew right by it to bite me on the ankles. Seems well made and the sticky stuff is very sticky, but it says yellow flies right on the ball itself and they don’t seem to care much for it.

Deer and Horsefly Killer
I have a large backyard where a pool is located along with a swamp in the wood just past my lawn. Deer and Horse flies spawn like armies each year and drive me nuts during parties or just working in the yard. I was Skeptical on this working, the day before my July 4th party in New England, I blew these black balls up, applied the glue and hung them only 2 ft off the ground around my pool and the yard where I place my volleyball court up. Within 24 hours I caught at least 100 of them, made the party so much more fun. I wished I had more and came back on just to do that. Being in the sun constantly the glue does try after sometime and you have to reapply it but I'm happy to do it. I had also bought a 70$ hanging one with a umbrella canopy over it to trap them and threw it away, it did nothing for the problem. I recommend this product!

Works Great, Deer Fly Population Dwindling
It really works! Little to no flies left. Tanglefoot brush applicator is useless for this. Use cardboard box cut to 3" to support the ball. Use a clean paint paddle, fits in the can (to get a lot) and spreads it evenly on the ball surface. I hang them in shade trees (where flies like to hang out) about head high. Don't understand the comments about no air needles. I ordered the 2 pack and got 4 air needles with them. They are readily available at any sporting goods store that sells basketballs. And for the guy that said the flies would still attack him and not the ball, I do what I call a "sucker" move. When I have one or more flies buzzing around my head, I simply walk up to a ball (about a foot from it) and the circling flies will invariably run into the ball. Great fun to watch. I even got my neighbor to hang up 2 balls. Not seeing many flies left in the area.

arrived exactly as described - keen to put it to use!

the catch em sticky coating adhesive is totally useless as it is not sticky at all. Only leaves an oily film on surface of the ball which cannot stick flies or any other insect. If you can find another adhesive that actually is sticky it probably may work.
