Fun & Functional
I recently picked up the colored version of Paper Mate Clearpoint mechanical pencils, and overall they’re quite enjoyable—especially for casual use. The pencils come in fun shades (pink, blue, purple, etc.) that write true to their barrel colors. They’re great for note-taking, doodling, or organizing thoughts by color without losing the ability to erase. Lead is fragile, lots of breakage especially near the end. Cost is comparable for the value. If you’re after a playful, colorful writing tool that’s easy to erase and comfortable to use for light tasks—these are a solid pick. They’re especially perfect for students, professionals or creative note-taking. However, if you’re looking for heavy-duty performance, frequent refilling, or top-tier durability, you might want to upgrade to a more premium pencil.

Exactly what I wanted
Thrilled! I was looking for a way to color code my planner. The colors are distinct. The writing feel is very smooth. The erasers work well. Will absolutely buy again as they run out

Fake reviews on here. Here's an honest one.
See, this is the reason why I don't trust reviews anymore. These pencils are GREAT. The leads do NOT break easily: they are just like any other pencils from leading brands. One to two button clicks does the job. The only reasons the leads may break constantly are (1) if you let the lead stick out too much, or (2) if you're trying to carve a hole into the book or paper you are using. This will cause ANY pencil lead to break! The erasers do the job, but not cleanly. I use a good quality block eraser instead and the pencil almost erases completely—not as much as regular graphite, but much cleaner than colored pencil (I have to use quite a bit of pressure when erasing the darker colors). If you use the original erasers, you'll have to watch how you use them; they might push back into the pencil depending on the angle/direction you erase from. Some colors write more smoothly than others. The blue pencil writes the smoothest to me. The pink pencil is the most waxy, and therefore writes lighter and not as smoothly as the blue. They can smear immediately after writing. Nothing a good shake or gentile blowing can't fix (note: I'm a "rightie"). Despite this, all of these write well. They feel good on paper. I love how the pencils feel in my hand as I write. I position my fingers in a weird manner when writing, so the padding and thickness of the pencils work well for me. I also like having the button for pushing lead on the side of the pencil, instead of the top where the eraser is. Overall, I recommend these pencils. I have all 6 colors, and they work very well for me. My biggest qualm with these is the price for lead replacements. The colors are split into sets of 3, only 6 sticks of lead for each color, and on Amazon, each pack is more than 7 dollars. SEVEN dollars for 18 sticks of lead?! Not worth it. The packs are about 2 dollars less in local stores (if you can find them). The refills come with erasers too, but it still isn't worth it to me, because I don't need them: I use an entirely different eraser. When you buy the pencils, each comes with 2 sticks of lead inside. I haven't used up the two yet, let alone the replacements I bought, but when I do, I'll try an alternative and see how it goes. Please take a grain of salt when reading reviews—many can be dishonest. Just as some glowing reviews encourage you to buy, some overly negative ones are there to discourage you from buying things. I almost did not buy this set of pencils because of the poor reviews, but I'm glad I did to try them out. I wish I would've waited until I found cost-effective refills, though. 4 out of 5 for these. Usage: I use them for writing, not art. Reason for buying: I was looking for a way to color code my notes (in a fun way that's easy to edit if I need to; I don't care for highlighters or erasable pens).

Vibrant Colors and No Mess: My Honest Take on These Mechanical Color Pencils
I picked these up because I was tired of carrying a separate sharpener for colored pencils while traveling. I live in Florida and spend a lot of time on the road, so I needed something compact for my planner and for marking up research papers without the wood shavings and the constant risk of a lead snapping in my bag. I was looking for the convenience of a mechanical pencil with the utility of color-coding. To be honest, my expectations were a bit mixed. I’ve tried "erasable" colored pencils before, and usually, they either don't erase well or the pigment is so faint you can barely see it. I wanted these to be dark enough to read easily but clean enough to actually disappear when I messed up. What Works (The Pros) The Erasability: This is the standout feature. Unlike standard colored pencils that just smudge, these actually erase almost completely. It’s perfect for someone like me who needs to adjust schedules or edit notes frequently. Comfortable Design: If you’ve used the standard Clearpoint pencils, you know the grip. It’s a slightly chunky, textured barrel that feels solid in the hand. I can use these for a long session without my hand cramping up. Side-Click Advance: Having the lead advance button on the side is just more natural. You don't have to stop and adjust your grip to keep writing. Jumbo Eraser: It’s a twist-up style, which means you actually get a decent amount of eraser material. The Downside (The Cons) Lead Capacity: Each pencil only comes with a couple of leads. If you’re a heavy user, you’ll burn through them faster than you’d expect. Lead Fragility: Since it’s 0.7mm colored lead, it’s a bit softer than standard graphite. If you have a heavy hand, you’re going to snap the tips fairly often. You have to learn to use a lighter touch. Refill Availability: Finding the specific colored lead refills in a local shop can be a headache; you usually have to order them online. Practical Uses and Value In the real world, these are great for color-coding a calendar or highlighting specific sections in a textbook. I’ve also found them surprisingly useful for quick sketches when I’m stuck in an airport. Because they don’t bleed, they are much better for thin planner pages than felt-tip markers. As far as value for money goes, they aren't the cheapest option on the shelf. You’re definitely paying a premium for the mechanical mechanism and the erasable tech. If you just need to scribble, go for the cheap wood ones. But if you value your space and hate sharpeners, the convenience makes the price tag justifiable. Final Verdict Did they meet my expectations? Mostly, yes. The colors are vibrant—especially the purple and blue—and the "no-sharpen" life is exactly what I wanted for my travels. I just wish they packed a few more leads in the initial box.

I mark up many drawings and they become "As Built" drawings. I use a few colours to achieve the results I need. The leads seem to be able to withstand the pressure I apply. The colours are bright and six choices make them quite useful. I tried ordering these about 9 10 months and I was denied. Glad to finally to be able to purchase them.

I got these to assist me in taking notes in project books documenting things as I developed a web-site analysis program for an intern project while finishing my engineering program. It really helped to separate the different categories and made meetings with my supervisor easier - due to the organisation I was able to achieve. Glad I stumbled on these. They have been super useful!
