Adorable little eggs in a carton – no batteries required
I picked up this set to use in an Easter Egg hunt for my one year old granddaughter. I placed the eggs inside larger plastic eggs and set the carton part of the toy in her basket. She had loads of fun “finding” the eggs (which I placed pretty much in plain sight!) and opening them to find the Tomy Eggs. She then had fun placing the eggs in the container. The carton looks like the container you buy eggs in at the grocery. It's yellow and has a stiff latch. I worked the latch until it was more easily pliable but at her age, she is keeping it open most of the time. There are six eggs. They each fit into a unique spot in the carton as there is a shape on the bottom of the egg which matches a shape on the appropriate spot in the carton. Each of the eggs open by taking off the top part of the egg. They all “chirp” when you push down on the colorful part of the egg once the top is removed. The inside part of the egg has a unique color that matches the removable top of the egg. The tops all fit on every egg, so a child can mix and match them. I like the toy for sheer play value – its cute and a young toddler can easily make the eggs “chirp”. I really appreciate that it is a toy that does not require batteries (the chirps are made by a whistle action that happens when you push down on the top.) I also like it for its educational value – colors and shapes. My granddaughter is loving it and her brother, who is 3.5 years old is also having fun with it – teaching his sister all about colors.

This is good, simplistic toy
This was a very simplistic and yet educational toy; It teaches matching, with faded-looking (only appears faded since the faces on the outer shells are harder to see painted on the dark interior egg colors), matching by color, by the indented shapes on the bottom, the eggs only fit into their proper geometric/classic shape (star, heart, circle, square etc.), and it runs on zero batteries!!! It is a parents dream toy, so when I purchased it for less than $10, I was dearly hoping my son would enjoy it or learn from it later when in a few years. It has the potential to patiently teach a child so much. My son on the other hand is the type of child who makes "cars" out of the amazon.com packing boxes and other useless things he finds. So, this toy did not fascinate him and I gave it away to a kid who would appreciate it that was his same age. I did want to add, it's more educational than fun at times until the child is smart enough to figure out the matching system that is going on. In my opinion for a boy (or any child who likes more active imagination toys or to make-believe, this toy would not work as well until they are older and I got this for my son long before he was a year old, so that was my first mistake. I supervised him each time he used it, but even though he liked to hear them squeak and like the eggs opening up, it was not his type of toy for learning, not fun enough for his usual mode of play. Maybe a girl would love it more but it is by no means, a gender specific toy, it's just that my son stacks and knocks and this was basically all he wanted to do with this at first, and then seeing the faces and the shapes he tried to match and then he'd get frustrated and stack and knock it all down...lol. Well, I digress, the point is, excellent toy when found at a decent price and it's not very big, about the size of 6 small eggs in a half-dozen carton? maybe.

Cute set to teach matching shapes/colors/faces
I seem to be a sucker for toys that have a lot of pieces that my 2 year old will ultimately throw everywhere (see my review on the 40 pc Thomas mini train set =P). There are six eggs with attached chicks and a shape on the bottom half, and faces on the outer top half. I like it that it's a set, and yet not 50 pieces that he can lose in his wild happy throwing sprees. Has he somehow managed to use the chicks as guns? Yes, he can turn anything into a weapon. But he also spends the majority of the time sorting them carefully by color, the faces that the egg/chick have, and the shape each one fits into in the carton. It keeps him occupied, and he plays with them repeatedly, so I think they're adorable and a great little set. He can take them around and it's not too bulky that it's an intrusion if I have to keep it in my purse for awhile. Only possible con, which I know is a minor issue, is that they don't really "squeak" like I expected them to. The noise they make is, I don't even know how to describe, but a really weak squeak, like a bad spring forcing air that just so happens to make a sound. But I dunno, it's not major enough for me not to like it. Imaginatively weaponized matching chicks are a win.

so simple yet so fun
I bought this about a year ago for my son who was almost a year and a half. I have to say that this is such a cute toy! The bottom of each egg is a different shape and fits into its matching spot in the carton. The way the carton is designed makes it very easy though for little ones to put the eggs in. Even if the eggs are not put in their correct place you can still shut the carton. The egg shells are very easy to take off and put back on as well. The only drawback is that the carton itself is very hard to open. My son is now 2 and a half and still has alot of trouble prying it open. This is one of the few toys that he has continually played with for over a year now. Its such a unique toy and I am very happy to have it as part of our collection!
