Excellent salt, even for grinders*
We've been buying this S.F. Salt Co. French Grey coarse ground salt for years and absolutely love it. Per the bag label, it's a product of France. The keys to remember here is that this is (1) coarse grain salt and (2) it does tend to be a little wet/sticky. So, if you're going to use it in a salt grinder (like we do every day), you'll want to dry it first. We dry about half the 2 lb bag at a time, typically 225 for about 30 min in our countertop convection toaster oven and then once cooled, place it in a sealable mason type jar with a desiccant...from there, we fill our salt grinder as needed. The ingredient list is "Salt" and that's it. No iodine, and likely no "significant" amount of caking agent(s). The FDA says if it's an "incidental" amount, it's not required to be labeled, otherwise, it does. In this case, since it is a bit moist, it's likely there is nothing else in the bag aside from the natural salt from France. The most recent bag we went through (bought last summer, 2025), had an expiration date of February 28, 2029, so roughly 4 & 1/2 years for that one. However, it's salt, so it could conceivably last "forever." Although, freshness is another story. Absolutely the best sea salt we've ever had. Highly recommended!

Elevate Your Culinary Experience with French Grey Salt
Thank you for letting me know that you purchased the product at the regular price on Amazon. In that case, you can still write a review based on your genuine experience with the French Grey Salt, emphasizing how it has enhanced your culinary French Grey Salt has quickly become a beloved staple in my kitchen. Its unique texture and flavor have elevated my culinary creations to a whole new level. This salt, also known as "sel gris," has a beautiful, coarse texture that provides a satisfying crunch and bursts of salty goodness in every bite. It's the perfect finishing touch for a wide range of dishes, from grilled steaks to roasted vegetables and even desserts like salted caramel. What truly sets French Grey Salt apart is its rich mineral content, which imparts a subtle complexity to the taste. You can taste the terroir of the salt marshes where it's harvested, and it's a testament to the craftsmanship that goes into its production. The resealable bag keeps the salt fresh and allows for easy dispensing. While it may be a bit pricier than table salt, a little goes a long way, and the results are well worth it. I found that the regular price on Amazon is a fair value for the quality and flavor this salt adds to my dishes. If you're passionate about cooking and want to take your dishes to the next level, French Grey Salt is a must-have in your pantry. It's a small investment that yields big flavor dividends.

Perfectly course and crunchy!
Love the flavor and crunch of the course salt. I had it at a friend's dinner party and have been purchasing it for our home ever since.

Best salt ever!
Best salt for breadmaking! I won’t use anything else. My sister is just beginning her breadmaking journey. I sent this to her. Ant let her make bread without the best ingredients! Excellent taste and quality.

Delicious, with a great mineral profile
I used to think salt was salt when I first started cooking, but over the years I've learned that's not the case. Natural sea salts have a really nice balanced flavor so that even overly-salted foods don't have that bitterness we normally associate with regular iodized table salt, and this grey salt is one of the best I've tasted. After I opened the bag I tried a little, I (much to my shame) can't stop grabbing a pinch here and there just to taste by itself. This is a really nice, moist salt that tastes wonderful on everything, from fish and poultry to beef, to bread, and even desserts. I like that the bag is resealable and very durable so I don't have to worry about finding a way to burn through five pounds of salt before my clumsy self dumps the whole thing out onto the pantry floor. The fine grind of salt is indeed finely ground, with a smaller grain than even typical table salt. I don't know how large the grains of coarse salt are, so if I could offer some advice to the seller, please add a comparison point in the pictures to give us an idea of how large the grains are, like a ruler, a pea, or even someone's palm. I like a medium texture, like kosher salt, so I wish there was a happy medium offered. Other than that, though, darn good product.

Price and Quality Mean Value
I use natural sea salt from France in all my cooking and baking where salt is called for. I have tried and tested many sea salts for various merchants and fine products can be found from several suppliers. I like this one from the San Francisco Salt Company for its flavor, grain size and, very importantly, price and quantity. I have observed with dismay how natural salt prices have risen and how small packaging has sometimes become. Not so with this item...or at least not outrageously so. This makes a good 'finishing' salt and also dissolves well in other applications. I continue to reorder it.

Both my daughter and I love this salt! I was freaked out cause it looked wet. Realizing after it is supposed to be that way. It is our go too plus a little goes a long way!! Will never buy another salt.

This product is mostly water and the bag is very small. Very unhappy with this product.
